Helpful Tips
- Successful punting is not only about having the best information in front of you, but also how you handle it.
- On a ratings screen, as a rule of thumb each 5 point ratings difference represents a length in ability.
Interpreting the information on screen
Rating Screen
In a race where we have our top two selections rated 100 and 95 it may be good to bet the same amount on both horses. For example, if the top selection is rated 100 and showing $3.50 and the 95 rated horse is showing $8.00, a bet of the same amount is suggested.
As there is only a small difference in the chances of the two horses, punters should take advantage of the big value on offer. If you have $100 on both, either:
- The top selection wins, you still show a profit of $150
- If second better priced selection wins then you show a profit of $600!!

When to back the favourite: If the Giddy-Up ratings team has the top rated horse priced at $3.00 and it is market favorite showing $4.50 on the TAB it is time to back the favourite.
When not to back the favourite: If the TAB favorite is Giddy-Up's 2nd or 3rd selection, for example showing $2.80 on the TAB and Giddy-Up is displaying $5.00 it is a good time to bet against the favorite.
When the TAB odds and Giddy-Up odds are the same: The chance of the top selection is good but may not represent good value. Therefore the value maybe in playing exotics and possibly stand the favorite out in Quinellas, trifectas and first fours.
Best Long Shot: This runner is identified as the best roughie, the shorter the Giddy-Up odds or the higher the rating the more realistic winning chance and value the Best Long Shot has, it could also represent good each way value.
